UKZN Ranks in the Top 2.4 Percent Globally

UKZN ranks in the top 2.4% out of 20 966 universities worldwide according to the 2024 edition of the outcome-based Global 2000 list by the Center for World University Rankings.

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) publishes the largest academic rankings of global universities and is known for its objectivity, transparency and consistency.

This year, UKZN ranks as follows:
World Rank: 483 out of 20 966
Percentile: Top 2.4% in the world
Regional Rank (Africa): 4
National Rank: 4

The Executive Director of Corporate Relations, Ms Normah Zondo, lauded the University’s outstanding research achievements, highlighting the impactful contributions made by students, academics, and research scholars. Zondo praised their dedication to research, innovation, and collaboration, emphasising how these efforts have propelled the University to the pinnacle of academic excellence. She concluded by expressing gratitude and acknowledging the ‘transformative power of human curiosity, creativity, and perseverance. Siyabonga.’

President of CWUR, Dr Nadim Mahassen, congratulated UKZN on its ‘outstanding achievement’ and noted that CWUR rankings were unique in that objective indicators were used for all four key pillars underlying the methodology of the ranking (education, employability, faculty, and research) with no reliance on surveys and university data submissions. Additionally, equal emphasis was put on student-related and faculty-related indicators.
